Andrew Lynch came to Bristol in 1979 and studied at Bristol Polytechnic in Fishponds. In what passes for a career in journalism, he has worked at the Bristol Evening Post, the Financial Times, Guardian, Sunday Telegraph and Daily Mail. This included a dozen years at The Sunday Times; as assistant business editor for a decade, and night editor on such ghastly occasions as the London Bridge attack (next to the office).

During a decade in Hong Kong from 1992, he was deputy night editor at the South China Morning Post, where he worked quite hard on June 30, 1997, and edited the Hong Kong Standard. More importantly, he was married to the late Sara Hamilton, an architect who blessed him with three sons and a springer spaniel, Archie, that he still cares for in Hotwells. He was touched to receive an honorary doctorate in business from his alma mater, the University of the West of England, in 2017. He tries hard to get to the end of books.
